# It should use the framework of the Work Program of Complexity as the foundation for its organization and its activities.

# It should use the Science of Generic Design and the forthcoming book titled The Work Program of Complexity: From Origins to Outcomes as the foundation for its learning programs.

# It should use Interactive Management as the methodology for organizing contexts of complex situations, and for generating designs to resolve complex situations.

# It should continue to foster individual in-depth research within the larger contexts provided by products of Interactive Management and structural analyses.

# CORRECTIVE MEASURES

  • Inadequate Sampling Capacity

 Expand the number of individuals into a small group to take advantage of the composite sampling experiences

  • Severely Limited Relational Processing Capability

 Apply a designed, computer-assisted group process which, among other things, does the following:

    • Requires the group to engage in a comprehensive process to explore, one relationship at a time, the relationship between situational components, one pair at a time, and to determine by majority vote, whether the relationship exists or not
    • Aggregates the voting and computes the structure of the overall set of relationships among the set of components

Provides an "audit trail" of production and discovery, to enable review and learning of what was accomplished

  • Group Pathologies (Groupthink, Clanthink, Spreadthink)

 Expand the requirements on the computer-assisted group process, to incorporate features that preclude the exercise of such pathologies.

  • (Short-Term) Incorporate process capability to assist the group to produce standardized relational representation forms

Control behavior in the group by process design, including the concept of keeping a question for discussion before the group at all times when the group is active, incorporating in the questions concepts previously advanced by group members as relevant to the situation

Generate, at the outset of this College, newly-defined criteria that recognize the uniqueness of the College's mission. Apply these to assessing faculty performance.

workspaces

* Space for large visual displays

* Provisions for information management

* Environmental controls

 Design the physical infrastructure to meet the already-established requirements for effective work on complexity, as outlined by the Work Program of Complexity.

  • Inadequate oversight of cross-college functions required for success

 For the longer term, develop individuals who are educated to fill institutional leadership roles related to defining contexts, and installing and managing appropriate processes in the organization.
